Furqan Mehdi, the emerging speedster continues to rise through Canadian Cricket Landscape. The BC Falcons have added firepower to their pace attack with the signing of 22-year-old fast bowler Furqan Mehdi for the inaugural season of the BC Men’s High Performance League 2025, a premier domestic competition designed to unearth and prepare the province’s top talent for higher honours.
The league features four teams — BC Falcons, BC Bears, BC Orcas, and BC Rockies — and will include both T20 and 50-over formats. Performances in the league will serve as the primary selection pool for the BC Provincial Squad, set to compete nationally later this year.
Mehdi, a right-arm quick, brings unmatched exposure and experience to the Falcons’ lineup. Despite his young age, he is already one of the most well-traveled cricketers in the Canadian domestic circuit. His cricketing journey has seen him represent teams across Newfoundland & Labrador, Ontario, Alberta, and now British Columbia, including a standout stint in the high-stakes $100K Open Championship for Saskatchewan Strykers.
Known for his sharp bounce and ability to swing the new ball, Mehdi is expected to lead the attack for the Falcons as they aim to stamp their dominance in the competition. With selectors watching closely, every game in the High Performance League offers a crucial opportunity to impress and earn a provincial call-up.
“I’m excited to be in BC and part of this new era for Canadian cricket,” said Mehdi. “This league is a great platform, and I’m ready to give it everything I’ve got.”
The BC Men’s High Performance League kicks off today on 9th July till 16th July. Stay tuned for match updates and player spotlights as the road to provincial selection heats up.
