Samir Bodas, co-founder and former CEO of Icertis, passed away after a battle with cancer, leaving behind a legacy that reshaped the global SaaS industry. Known for his sharp intellect and infectious energy, Bodas believed contracts should do more than sit in drawers and they should create clarity, trust, and measurable value for businesses.
Born in Pune, India, Samir Bodas moved to the United States in 1982 to pursue his undergraduate studies at the University of Texas at Austin. He later earned a degree from the Wharton Business School, a combination that blended technical understanding with strategic business thinking. Over the years, he worked with respected technology firms including National Instruments, Microsoft, Jamcracker, Disha Technology, and Aztecsoft, building deep experience in enterprise software.
In 2009, Bodas co-founded Icertis with Monish Darda, aiming to transform contract lifecycle management through intelligence and automation. His vision paid off. In 2019, Icertis achieved unicorn status, emerging as one of the most successful SaaS companies to originate from India before relocating its headquarters to Bellevue, Washington. Today, Icertis operates across North America, Europe, and Australia.
Beyond growth metrics, Bodas stood out for his leadership style. He inspired teams to think big, act ethically, and build something meaningful. A little humour often found its way into serious boardroom discussions because, as he believed, innovation thrives where people feel human.
Financial results reflect the strength of his foundation. In FY24, Icertis reported ₹863 crore in operating revenue and ₹97 crore in net profit, according to company filings.
Samir Bodas may no longer be here, but his ideas, values, and impact continue to guide Icertis and the SaaS world at large.
