The rugby community in Newfoundland and Labrador is mourning the loss of longtime contributor and respected leader Greg Noble, whose dedication to the sport spanned decades.
In a statement shared by Newfoundland Rugby, the organization expressed deep sadness over Noble’s passing and extended condolences to his wife Shirley, the Noble family, and the many rugby friends whose lives he touched through the game.
Noble was widely recognized for his commitment to rugby both on and off the field. From his early days as a player to his later years as an administrator and mentor, he remained deeply involved in the growth and development of the sport across the province.
He was a prominent leader with the Dogs Rugby Football Club in Mount Pearl, where he played a key role in supporting and promoting the club. Noble was also closely associated with “The Rock,” the Newfoundland senior men’s team, and was part of the leadership group that celebrated the 20th anniversary of the team’s first national championship.
His impact extended into provincial rugby administration as well. Noble was elected President of the Newfoundland and Labrador Rugby Union on May 6, 2009, serving a one year term. Following his presidency, he continued to serve the organization for another 17 years as Past President and board member.
In the 2025 to 2026 season, Noble remained actively involved, holding the dual role of Vice President and Treasurer for the union.
Throughout his career, Noble was known for his tireless dedication to rugby in Newfoundland and Labrador, consistently working to strengthen the sport and support its community.
His passing marks the loss of a passionate advocate and a respected figure whose contributions helped shape the province’s rugby landscape.
The rugby community continues to reflect on his legacy and the many years he devoted to the game.
