Newfoundland and Labrador’s cricket scene is set to see a boost in officiating talent as Cricket NL prepares to host umpiring and scoring exams on April 19 at Memorial University.
The exams, held under Cricket Canada’s Rohan Shah Umpire Training Program, will include Level 1 Provisional Umpire for $50, Level 2 Intermediate Umpire for $150, and Level 1 Scorer for $50.
Officials who pass these exams can earn $50 per game, making the program an attractive opportunity for those looking to combine volunteer experience with extra income. With biweekly payments, participants can recover their exam fees in as little as two weekends.
Cricket NL officials say the initiative is part of a larger effort to strengthen the local cricket infrastructure by building a skilled pool of umpires and scorers while giving participants professional development opportunities.
