In a cricketing landscape that continues to grow across Newfoundland and Labrador, few new teams have made an early impression quite like NL Hunters. Behind the club’s rapid rise is founder and leader Mandeep Singh, whose vision for the team extends far beyond wins and losses.

Formed with the goal of creating an inclusive and year round cricket environment, NL Hunters was built to give players from different backgrounds a place to compete, connect, and grow through the sport. For Mandeep, who brings more than 26 years of cricket experience from India and Canada, the idea was never just about assembling a team. It was about building a cricketing community.
That journey was not straightforward.
Before NL Hunters even stepped onto the field, the club faced challenges in securing official registration with Cricket NL. Multiple meetings and discussions were required before the team was finally granted its place in the league structure. It was an early test of patience and commitment, but one that ultimately laid the foundation for what followed.
The breakthrough moment came in the 2026 NL Cricket Winter League, where NL Hunters stunned many by lifting the championship in their debut season. It marked only the second time a newly formed club had captured the title, turning the team from newcomers into genuine contenders almost overnight.

Now competing in the Cricket NL T20 Summer League, NL Hunters remain a developing side with a mix of experienced players and emerging talent. While results continue to fluctuate in a competitive environment, the club has already shown signs of resilience and depth, staying within reach of regaining momentum as the season progresses.
What separates NL Hunters from many clubs, however, is the philosophy behind the team.
For Mandeep Singh, cricket is not limited to the boundary ropes. His message to players centers around discipline, patience, emotional control, teamwork, and resilience. In his view, the same qualities that shape a strong cricketer are the same qualities that shape everyday life.
From handling pressure during matches to bouncing back after setbacks, the lessons of cricket often mirror the challenges people face away from the sport. That mindset has become a major part of the identity NL Hunters is trying to establish in Newfoundland and Labrador.
Rather than focusing only on scoreboards and trophies, the club appears determined to create something sustainable: a cricket culture rooted in community, opportunity, and personal growth.
For a team still in its early stages, NL Hunters have already managed to carve out a distinct place within the province’s cricket scene. And with Mandeep Singh continuing to push the club forward, their story may still only be beginning.
