David Coote Banned by UEFA Until 2026 for Misconduct

Former football referee David Coote has received a UEFA ban until June 30, 2026, for misconduct that tarnished football’s reputation. UEFA’s decision follows his dismissal by the PGMOL in December after an internal investigation.
Coote can no longer officiate in the Nations League, Champions League, Europa League, or UEFA Conference League. The ban also prevents him from refereeing in the Premier League. The punishment comes after a video showed Coote snorting a white powder while on duty at Euro 2024. In another incident, he insulted a manager with offensive language.
Coote admitted that struggling with his sexuality contributed to his behavior. Despite these issues, Paul Field from the Referees’ Association praised his efforts in mentoring young officials. Field suggested that Coote could still help football in a non-officiating role.
Coote has expressed his desire to return to the sport in some capacity. However, he must serve his ban before seeking any future role in football.
