St. John’s, NL – Cricket Newfoundland and Labrador (Cricket NL) has taken a significant step in youth sports development with the successful completion of a three-week kids’ cricket program. The initiative, spearheaded by Cricket NL President Saad Shaifan Ahmed, aimed to introduce young players to the sport and develop their fundamental skills.

The program was entirely volunteer-led, with experienced coaches Chris Lansdell, Tendai Mudunge, and Syed Wajid Ali guiding the participants through structured training sessions. Young cricketers were divided into two teams, the Little Dragons and the Fearless Warriors, fostering a sense of teamwork and friendly competition. Vinai Hingoo also contributed as an assistant coach, lending his support to the initiative.

With an emphasis on skill-building, sportsmanship, and enthusiasm for the game, the program provided a platform for children to explore and develop their cricketing abilities in a supportive environment. The involvement of dedicated volunteers underscores the growing passion for cricket in Newfoundland and Labrador.

Cricket NL’s efforts in launching such initiatives highlight the organization’s commitment to expanding the sport’s reach in the province. As grassroots cricket continues to gain traction, programs like these play a crucial role in nurturing the next generation of players.
