Cricket Canada has decided to discontinue its contract with Bombay Sports Company, the organizers of the Global T20 League, due to consistent delays in payments. Cricket Canada President Amjad Bajwa explained the reasoning behind this decision:

“The organizers have often been late with their payments, and we couldn’t continue like this,” Bajwa said. “They always wanted us to approve the next season before paying for the previous one. I saw this as a form of blackmail.”

However, Karan Singh, the director of the GT20 League, has disputed Cricket Canada’s stance, denying that the league has been officially canceled.

“We do not accept this decision,” Singh stated. “There was not even a courtesy call from their side. Our legal team in Canada and India is handling this.”

This dispute has not only led to the league’s cancellation but has also put Cricket Canada in financial difficulty, as the GT20 played a key role in funding player salaries and infrastructure.

Cricket Canada finds itself embroiled in yet another controversy, adding to a growing list of scandals that have plagued the organization. With former head coach Pubudu Dassanayake’s legal case, the women’s team captain’s allegations, and now CEO Salman Khan facing theft charges, the governance of cricket in the country is under intense scrutiny. These incidents raise serious questions about leadership, transparency, and the overall direction of Canadian cricket.
