The International Cricket Council has announced a record prize pool for the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2026, and it clearly shows how fast women’s cricket is growing. With the tournament approaching, the ICC confirmed a total prize money of US$8,764,615, which marks a 10% increase from the 2024 edition. That rise reflects stronger investment in the women’s game and a growing global audience that continues to support it.

Prize Distribution and Team Earnings

The winners will receive US$2.34 million, while the runners-up will take home US$1.17 million. Both losing semi-finalists will earn US$675,000 each. Teams will also benefit from match-by-match rewards, with every group-stage win worth US$31,154. Importantly, all 12 participating teams are guaranteed at least US$247,500, which ensures financial support even for sides that exit early in the tournament.

Expansion to 12 Teams

The 2026 edition will feature 12 teams, compared to 10 in the previous tournament. This expansion highlights the rising competitiveness in women’s cricket, as more nations now invest in developing strong squads. More teams also mean more matches and opportunities, which should make the tournament even more engaging for fans.

A Clear Step Forward for Women’s Cricket

ICC CEO Geoff Allardice welcomed the move and emphasized the organization’s commitment to growing the women’s game globally. The increased prize money, combined with a larger tournament, signals a clear step forward. Women’s cricket continues to gain attention, and with better financial backing, the sport now has a stronger platform to grow even further.
