The NBA is looking to expand into Europe with a new basketball league. NBA Commissioner Adam Silver recently shared that the league is working with the International Basketball Federation (FIBA) to make this idea a reality.
How the League Will Work
The proposed European league will have 16 teams. Twelve teams will have permanent spots, while four teams will have to qualify each year. Unlike the NBA’s 48-minute games, this league will follow FIBA’s shorter 40-minute format.
Strong Support from Club Owners
Many well-known European soccer club owners, including those from Paris Saint-Germain and Manchester City, have joined the discussions. Silver has also mentioned that NBA team owners are excited about the idea and fully support it.
A Step Toward Global Expansion
This move would bring high-level professional basketball closer to European fans. It could also help grow the sport internationally and create new opportunities for players and teams in Europe. If the plan moves forward, basketball fans in Europe could soon see a league similar to the NBA in their own cities.
