Canada’s national kickboxing team roster for the 2025 WAKO World Championships has been announced, and among the standout names is Newfoundland’s own Hady Ghoneim, who will represent the country in the 75 kg category.

Ghoneim, a dedicated athlete training out of Rock Athletics in St. John’s, has carved a name for himself in the Canadian kickboxing circuit through relentless effort and strong showings at national competitions. His selection is not only a personal milestone but also a proud moment for Newfoundland and Labrador’s growing martial arts community.

He joins a formidable Team Canada lineup bound for Abu Dhabi, where the world’s best amateur kickboxers will gather for the prestigious WAKO World Championships. The full male team representing Canada in K-1 rules includes:

  • 54 kg: Charles Alexander Pelletier (Studio Unis Val-Belair, QC)
  • 60 kg: Adrian Tong (Ottawa Academy of Martial Arts, ON)
  • 63.5 kg: Hunter Coyne (Total Martial Arts Center, AB)
  • 67 kg: Joseph Gouda (MTC Windsor, ON)
  • 71 kg: Jacob Pighin (Kalsamrit Martial Arts, ON)
  • 75 kg: Hady Ghoneim (Rock Athletics, NL)
  • 81 kg: Joseph Nabong (Edmundston Kickboxing, NB)
  • 85 kg: Marcus Hinton (Gladiators MMA, AB)

The event, set to take place later this year in Abu Dhabi, is one of the most competitive stages in world kickboxing, featuring elite athletes from around the globe. Ghoneim’s inclusion reflects both his individual grit and the rising talent emerging from Atlantic Canada.

Team Canada will now begin its final preparation phase, with athletes intensifying their training camps and refining their skills in anticipation of the global spotlight.
