Queen’s Park Oval, Port of Spain – June 26th, 2025
They say you can take the cricketer out of QPCC, but not the QPCC out of the cricketer. On June 26th, Thursday, Vinai proved just that.
In front of a buzzing local crowd at the annual Bryan Davis Cricket Festival, Hingoo returned from Canada and scripted a knock for the ages, 194*, brilliantly positioning his club, SFBT, to a commanding victory over the Deaf Association. It wasn’t just a reminder of what he’s always been capable of, it was a statement that he’s not done yet.
This wasn’t just another match, this is a moment layered with legacy. Named after former West Indies and QPCC cricket Bryan Davis, the 30-over tournament has featured cricketing legends like Brian Lara, Colin Croft, Gordon Greenidge, Bernard Julien and many more. And Hingoo now sits firmly in the spotlight amongst all these big names.
Hingoo a founding member of SFBT and their former captain, was last seen leading the side in a heartbreaking final loss in 2022. Hingoo moved to Canada with his family to pursue his professional career, but he never left cricket. Vinai represents NL Hurricanes and also Cricket Newfoundland and Labrador provincial side, and have crossed 1000 professional runs in Canada as well.
Vinai, said in a statement to Total Sports Flick, “Returning to this competition after a two-year hiatus, this innings held deep significance for me.
Having just come back with valuable international experience and a renewed passion for the game, I was eager to test myself”.
The Deaf Association XI, meanwhile deserve full marks for their efforts and showing fight. Having recently hosted the Indian Deaf National Team, their involvement isn’t just tokenism, it’s a real and growing part of the Caribbean cricket’s future. QPCC deserves credit for that vision.
But the day belongs to Vinai Hingoo and in a tournament built on legacy, his 194* equal parts of nostalgia and class, he has now produced one of the most iconic individual performance in the festival’s rich history. “I’ve been putting in the hard work behind the scenes, and seeing it pay off in this way makes it all the more rewarding.” – he added.
For SFBT, who last lifted Bryan Davis Cup in 2018, it is a spark run for another title. For Vinai, this might be the beginning to one a new cricketing chapter, wherever he plays next.
We extend our heartfelt thanks to Daran Soondarsingh for sharing his valuable insights on Vinai’s unforgettable knock and providing us with a deeper understanding of the festival and the legacy of QPCC.
